Lawrence + Memorial Hospital (L+M) announced today the receipt of a $25,000 grant from Sails Up 4 Cancer to provide high quality, patient-centered care to cancer patients receiving treatment at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Waterford.
The grant will enable the hospital to assist patients through its Patient Assistance Fund with transportation to and from the Smilow Cancer Hospital in Waterford for treatment and physician appointments.
Annual mammograms and any recommended biopsies are crucial to identifying breast cancer early, and early detection can lead to better outcomes.
Middlesex Health uses a special breast biopsy system to perform stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI-guided biopsies at its Radiology locations. These image-guided biopsies allow the radiologist to obtain a small tissue sample for laboratory testing and are less invasive than a surgical biopsy.
Using computer guidance, these biopsies can pinpoint the exact Sails Up 4 Cancer is proud to announce that it has been selected by Subaru America as part of this years Share the Love campaign in conjunction with Holmgren Subaru in Franklin, CT. Subaru has donated over $147 million toward charities across the country. From November 14, 2019 until January 2, 2020 Subaru will donate $250 to Sails Up 4 Cancer for each car sold or leased. Sails Up 4 Cancer, founded in 2011 is a 501(c)3 non profit corporation based in Mystic. Over the past eight years Sails Up has donated Sailors Do It For the Cure!

Franklin, CT – Since its founding six years ago, Sails Up 4 Cancer has donated thousands of dollars to organizations, including the Children’s Cancer Research Fund and the Visiting Nurses Association of Southeast Connecticut.
It also has helped dozens of New London County cancer patients pay their bills and put food on the table.
On Tuesday morning, Bob Davis, a two-time cancer survivor, avid sailor and the founder and CEO of the nonprofit Norwich, CT – Continuing their tradition of support for community hospice care, Center for Hospice Care recently announced it has been selected as a $3,000 grant recipient from Sails Up 4 Cancer to provide hospice and palliative care to cancer patients in Southeast Connecticut.
“We are very grateful and fortunate that Sails Up 4 Cancer has once again recognized our commitment to provide our patients in the final days of life and their families with quality care and services – in particular this Sails Up 4 Cancer is proud to announce the fulfillment of a $10,000 grant request to L+M Cancer Center in Waterford, CT. The donated funds will be used for their Transportation Fund and Patients Assistance Fund. As a sub-part of the Patients Assistance Fund, L+M has established the Single Women/Head of Household Fund.
